The Rho Xi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was chartered on October 25, 2008 on the Staten Island campus of St. John’s University by Erina Bailey, Sandra Estimable, Tamika  Wildman, Danielle Johnson, and Hannah Olga-Appiah.

The organization is the first international sorority chartered on the St. John's Staten Island campus and the first multicultural-based service sorority.  Since then, the chapter has distinguished itself for providing a multitude of outstanding on-campus and off-campus programs and community service projects.

The Legacy of the Rho Xi Chapter continued: on November 20, 2009 (with the Induction of N’Gadie Kamara, Chelsea  Willis, Ju Dee Bacchus, and Tiffany Williams), March 5, 2011 (with the Induction of Sarah Bellamy), April 4, 2012 (with the Induction of Courtney Luc, Justine Roman, Taylor Fajardo, Mia Ross) & March 27, 2013 (with the Induction of Eboni Lee).

Rho Xi is always striving to keep the light of Sigma burning on the St. John's University campus.
